Curriculum Details

You’ll complete 10 courses to earn your Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership degree from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Our program focuses on an interdisciplinary curriculum with real-world applications. In the program, you’ll gain hands-on experience addressing real organizational challenges. Through your coursework, you’ll reflect on your leadership style, decision-making processes and the impacts of your choices on society.

This course prepares students to lead individuals, teams, and organizations with a focus on equity and inclusion. 

In this course, students learn how to set targets, develop and analyze strategies, build partnerships, and design organizational initiatives. 

In this course, students build the skills to foster effective collaboration and team building within and across public, private, and nonprofit organizations and to address systemic issues that cannot be addressed via individual action alone. 

In this course, students develop the ability to communicate concepts, ideas, and results through multiple channels to diverse internal and external audiences. 

This course enables students to collect, analyze, manage, and visualize data to make evidence-based decisions related to an organization. 

In this course, students learn to manage budgets and mobilize funding for organizational sustainability and growth. 

This course allows students to identify the need for organizational change and to create and implement an action plan while actively supporting staff and stakeholders.  

In this course, students identify their strengths and challenges and develop leadership philosophies that prioritize continuous learning and development. 

This course explores the psychological principles and theories of effective leadership. Students will examine the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral factors influencing leadership styles, decision-making, and team dynamics.  Through case studies, group discussions, and practical exercises, students will understand how psychological factors shape leadership success. 

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop further or implement a prior course project. Students may also choose a new project or research topic that allows for additional application of knowledge and skills developed through the degree program. The practicum faculty will also help source projects for students through the Middlebury Institute network as needed.
